 Randy

Don Dove of North Carolina provided these picks if his install. The ignition switch in this case is located in the lighter slot. Gee - is that a theft deterent?

 RD

Don also found a clever place to mount the coil - gotta love the simpicity. K.I.S.S.

Subject: Engine kit

Hi Dale,

I received the conversion kit and installed this weekend. It works great. I added an on/off toggle switch on the dash. I thought you might want to see some pictures of the finished product.

Thanks,

Streator

Matt Hauser at Streator Engine & Parts (Streator, IL) installed one of two hand built units in this HH120. Take note of the bracket Matt made to support the coil. He explained that his customer had bought the tractor new, and desperately wanted to save it. Matt's e-mail follows...

Hi Dale,

I installed the pickup like you said.  Added a toggle switch, it starts and runs great.  The hardest part was mounting the coil in the tight engine compartment.

Thank you
Matt

I'm waiting for pics of the 2nd Tecumseh HET installation into Chuck Newlin's  HH120, but here is his email from yesterday...

Hi Dale,

   Thursday - Feb, 1, 2007

   Installed the ignition system.
   Fired right up.
   Sounds good.

   The unit fit very nicely.
It is a one way only deal – perfect fit!

Have the starter / generator belt guard off..
Neighbor has never had his on!
I will watch the belt during
Cold start (morning) and hot starts normal operations.

It is not a nice day (cold rain - was freezing) in Duluth, Ga.
Most likely will get the trailer loaded up today.
We just might find 1000 lbs of old scrap metal – less time - fewer pieces.

The ignition is simple enough - most anyone can install it.
If they have the flywheel off and still have the Flywheel Key.
   They can install your system.

I did a sequence of pictures.
Tomorrow (Firday) I will load the engine.

   Thanks,
   Chuck

Below is the actual beta-site HET module installed at Streator Engine & Parts (Streator, IL)

What is it? The Tecumseh HET system replaces the factory CDI (610759 & 610760) in total. Comprised of a trigger module that mounts underneath the flywheel, and a Bosch Blue automotive coil, installing the system could not be any easier.

The GEN II prototype above mounts with a single fastener and requires no timing to be done. Simple two wire hook-up, so easy that a cave man could do it. Sorry Geico... It truly is designed to be plug and play.

Instructions and pictorials will be available on the web specific to the Tecumseh offering, however in the meantime if you are interested have a look at the Wisconsin HET wiring diagram (http://overnight-solutions.com/page7.html).

After careful consideration, I have elected to tool the Tecumseh HET with only a single trigger - no retard feature as with the factory CDI. This feature is important if the engine has high compression and does not have the benefit of a compression release. It is my understanding that all HH100 and HH120 are so equipped. The advance will be calibrated in accordance with the factory full advance of 0.095" BTDC. A more aggressive advance is available for you pullers if interested.

The Wisconsin HET has been in service for better than 1 year now, with no unexplainable failures. The most common failure (2) was a result of the customer using the factory CDI coil with 0.1 ohm of primary resistance, as opposed to a 12V automotive coil with better than 3 ohms of primary resistance. Needless to say, the death was prompt albeit each customer said that the engine did start. Amazing given the theoretical current was 120A (12V divided by 0.1 ohm).

For this reason, the Tecumseh HET will only be sold with a Bosch Blue high performance coil. In addition to the Bosch's high voltage secondary, it is epoxy filled as opposed to oil filled. The result is a product that can be mounted in high heat/high vibration environments without problems.
